Meet Ian McPherson

STEM Advocate. Community Leader. Proud Public School Graduate.

Hello! I’m Ian McPherson, and I’m running for Lebanon City School Board because I believe every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and supportive environment.

I’m a software engineer with over 7 years of experience working at the intersection of health care and biotech. Today, I work in the games industry, where creativity and problem-solving go hand in hand with technical skill. No matter the industry, one thing has remained constant: the importance of access to education that prepares students for the future.

My own path started in public schools. In high school, I was fortunate to participate in the Engineering Academy at Hoover High School; a program that fundamentally shaped my career. These kinds of academies are powerful: they give students hands-on experience and a head start in college and career pathways like Information Technology, Healthcare, Law, and Engineering. I want to bring that same opportunity to students in Lebanon.

Outside of work, I’ve always found purpose in giving back. I served on the leadership team for the Birmingham chapter of Extra Life, a charity that brings gamers together to support children’s hospitals. I’m also a proud board member of Lebanon Pride, where I work to ensure that all members of our community feel seen, respected, and included.

I’m running for school board because I want our schools to be places where every child feels safe to be themselves, where fairness and respect are foundational values, and where 21st-century skills like computer literacy, critical thinking, and collaboration are part of everyday learning.

Lebanon’s students deserve nothing less.
